Toshu Yamamoto, a Living National Treasure, along with his sonfs wife established the Bizenyaki School of pottery in 1974. He is known throughout the ceramic world for his low heat and extended f iring process techniques. During Toshu Yamamotofs f iring process he dries his each piece before applying paint to his pottery. He then f ires his work again, this f iring process gives his work a straight and sophisticated look. His f iring technique has also been said to draw out Japanese sake f lavor and give water a crisp and refreshing taste.
Crafts that age with af fection T heir goal has been to create items that are enhanced by daily use and the passing of time. Bizenyaki School of pottery from Kamamoto has been creating Mingei, sophisticated crafts. T he hand made process gives every dif ferent sophisticated looks. T he Bizenyaki Kamamoto School of pottery has recently focused a great deal of time on improving their sangiri technique. T his technique af fects the manner in which items change in appearance over time. JARLD believes that this project makes people enjoy using Mingei pottery more like their clothes.
